Mdk 10 is the only mdk distro since pre-7.2 that i`ve not been able to

get my sound card functioning automatically on install.

I have a cmedia electronics cm8783 with no sound at all.

The odd thing i noticed on install that at the end of the install the "

summary " showed my sound card twice. Alsamixer also seems to be showing

2 sound cards when i only have one.The other thing with alsamixer is that

the volume control speakers on the far left are greyed out though i can

move the volume control up and down with no effect.

can`t make it out, so would much appreciate some help/advice.

Paul

      Paul,

have you tried to remove the card, reboot, shutdown, reinstall, then reboot?

I have one of those sitting on the floor in front of me that was just

      working with 10.0...

I just re-enabled the Nvidia audio...on the MB.

have you gone to Kmenu-System-Configure-KDE-Sound and select a sound server?

      alsa, open sound, or threaded?

Admittedly I haven`t but it seems a bit draastic simply to get sound

working when from 7.2-9.2 it`s worked out of the box, no problem.

I had a problem on Mandrake 9.2 where my c-media 8738 soundcard would

frequently stop producing any sound even though applications like Totem

Media Player would appear to load and play a sound file. I cured this by

using the OSS drivers - no problem since.
